Principal, Ms. Fu was at the school waiting for the students to depart for the Hong Kong International Airport at 3:30 pm on the day. Three students were brought directly to the airport by their parents. We arrived at the departure lounge at around 6:15 pm, waiting for the flight to Sydney, Australia. This was a challenge for the students, as the journey from Hong Kong to Sydney would take over 8 hours, testing their patience. Due to unstable weather in Hong Kong that evening, with lightning and thunderstorms, the plane finally took off around 8:30 pm. After over 8 hours of flight, we finally arrived in Sydney, Australia, about an hour later than scheduled. We immediately rushed to collect our luggage and clear customs. Due to long queues, we were unable to catch the originally planned domestic flight from Sydney to Brisbane. Fortunately, we were able to board the next available flight, only arriving in Brisbane about an hour later than intended. By then, it was already 15th June, and we had unknowingly entered the second day of our trip. |

As soon as we stepped out of the airport, the sky was clear with no clouds, the weather was fine and the air was fresh - a perfect description of the weather in Brisbane, Australia, although it was relatively dry. A gentleman named Mr. Junior, who turned out to be our teacher and tour guide, came to pick us up. We boarded the tour bus and headed to the Southbank Parklands. There is a landmark of a giant ferris wheel there. Upon arrival, we saw a riverbank and a large lawn, with people jogging, enjoying the sun, and chatting. Mr. Junior had prepared lunch for us, and we sat on the grass like locals to have our meal. The students were very excited to have this unique experience and enjoyed the sunshine and the leisurely lunch. After the meal, they also strolled around the area, of course taking plenty of selfies. After the lunch and small activities, we walked to the Queensland Museum next to the Southbank Parklands. This museum introduces the natural environment and cultural heritage of Queensland. The content attracted the students, who studied the exhibits carefully and took photos. They were most interested in the local insects, and the museum staff even took out some insects for the students to touch - surprisingly, the students were very brave to try. They also enjoyed the dinosaur exhibits. The students explored the museum, trying to make the most of their time there. Around 3:30 pm, we departed for the school the students would be attending, called Ashbrook State School. Of course, we did not have classes on a Sunday, but the students were to meet their host families (home stay families) here. The host families would take the students home to stay with them, drive them to school every morning, and provide them with lunch. Everyone was very excited to meet each other, taking photos to document the occasion. After the meeting, we said goodbye, as we would be greeting everyone again at the school gates the next morning. It was already around 5:30 pm by this time. In the Australian winter, it gets dark quite early. |

At 7:45 am, the host parents drove the students back to school. The students expressed that the host families had taken very good care of them and were very caring. The homes were quite large, and the students were able to sleep soundly. The students then entered the school building to prepare for their studies. They first had a class with Mr. Junior, the teacher, called "Culture and Language," similar to our Thursday afternoon language and culture class. This class focused on learning about the local Australian culture and language, and lasted about an hour each day. After that, there was a "morning tea" session, during which the LTY students would enjoy refreshments and chat with their assigned "buddy" students from the school. The LTY students would then spend the rest of the school day with their buddies, participating in the regular school activities. As the LTY students were attending classes with the local students, the LTY teachers were not allowed to accompany them or take photos, in order to protect the privacy of the local students. An hour before the end of the school day, the time would be handed back to the LTY teachers for a recap and reminders. The first two days of the school experience were generally the same. |

The morning activities were the same as the previous two days. On this day, the LTY students had to bring their luggage back to school, so they had packed the night before at their host homes. After school, the students would check into a hotel with their teachers. At 2:00 pm, the school held a "Buddy Farewell Party" at the school. The principal of Ashmore State School was present and gave a speech, handing out certificates to each student as an encouragement. The LTY principal also gave a thank-you speech and presented the Ashmore State School principal with a banner and a gift as a gesture of appreciation. The school had prepared some snacks and drinks for the students to enjoy as they had a final chance to interact. Of course, a group photo was taken, and the students also took photos at different spots around the school before leaving. Around 4:45 pm, the group headed to the hotel to check in. After completing the check-in process, they went to Bazaar at QT Gold Coast for a buffet dinner. The students were very excited and kept going back for more food, though they promised the teachers they would be mindful of wasting food. With full stomachs, Mr. Junior then took the group for a walk along Surfer's Paradise, where they observed the lively activities on the beach, such as people walking, running, and playing volleyball. The group then returned to the hotel lobby to recap the day's events before heading to their rooms to rest, as it was already 10:30 pm. |

At 7:30 am, we enjoyed breakfast at the hotel before heading out to the Gold Coast to enjoy the sun and scenery. We played games on the beach and then went to nearby shops to buy souvenirs. Around 11:00 am, Mr. Junior took the students to Hungry Jack's for lunch, asking them to order their meals in English, combining learning with entertainment. After lunch, we went to the Currumbin Wildlife Sanctuary. In addition to seeing various Australian animals, we also watched some performances and took a train to admire the park's scenery. The students enjoyed the area with the parrots the most, as there were many of them that would fly towards the students' heads, arms, and shoulders, leading to continuous photo-taking and excited reactions. Finally, the students didn't miss the opportunity to visit the souvenir shop. We returned to the hotel around 5:00 pm, dropped off our belongings, and then went out for dinner, where the students had either steak or fish and chips, and enjoyed their meals. Afterwards, we had originally planned to return to the hotel early to pack our bags. However, since the students had been well-behaved these past few days, we took them to a supermarket to let them see the differences from Hong Kong and practice calculating the exchange rate. The students were very engaged, carefully calculating the prices of each item. Around 8:45 pm, we returned to the hotel to finish packing, which took about an hour, as we needed to wake up early the next morning to go to the airport, so the students were instructed to go to bed soon. |

Today was a travel day. We woke up at 2:30 am, had breakfast around 3:00 am, and left for the airport at 3:45 am. We boarded a flight from Brisbane to Sydney at 6:15 am. This time, we sent our luggage directly to Hong Kong from Brisbane, which was more convenient. We arrived in Sydney around 7:30 am. We went from the domestic terminal to the international terminal to check-in, which had a long queue. It took us about an hour and a half to reach the international terminal and then go through customs. We finally reached the gate around 9:15 am. Fortunately, the flight was delayed to 10:15 am, so we were able to rest a bit. The students then had to face another journey of over 8 hours. We finally arrived safely in Hong Kong around 6:50 pm. After collecting our luggage, we stepped out of the terminal around 7:30 pm. Some parents were there waving and taking photos to welcome us back. Three students were picked up by their parents at the airport, and the remaining students took a tour bus back to school, where their parents were waiting outside. The parents kept expressing their gratitude. We also thanked everyone for their participation and hope to continue organizing such meaningful overseas exchanges in the future. By around 8:30 pm, all the students had been picked up and returned home. |
